“Those of us who have birthdays on December 25th know what the Three Wise Men said to Jesus: ‘Now, these are both for your birthday and Christmas.’ Actually, the Wise Men only came on Epiphany, January 6; being wise, they shopped after Christmas.” - Bob Smith
I used to love Christmas back when I was living in the States. Lots of lights, interesting things in the stores, cheezy music everywhere, and best of all - none of it had anything to do with me! All those people were running around on the verge of panic, worrying about family, food and presents, and I could just sit back and enjoy the gestalt. You really should try to experience Christmas as a strange foreign custom. It’ll open your eyes.
I have to say though that I had a crazy maiden aunt with a birthday on July 5. She’d always take me out to celebrate my birthday too, along with her. She was absolutely great, and I loved her to death. If only many others had given me presents in July too…
My wife and I have birthdays a day apart at the end of July, and VunderKind’s is the first of March. When he was little, he’d get a half-birthday in July so everyone had presents for the same occasion.
