Just heard on the evening news that the fire might have been caused by fireworks…the mayor, visibly upset, said that some “miscreant” must have been misusing fireworks. “Miscreant” my ass…“shithead” would be more appropriate. Maybe this “miscreant’s” butt should be BBQ’d if they find out who did it, which is unlikely. http://www.thenewmexicochannel.com/news/2291605/detail.htmlPOSTED: 5:20 p.m. MDT June 24, 2003
Fortunately, only one dwelling was destroyed. But this is scary!
:smack:
I agree, and while I live in the NE Heights and wasn’t directly affected by the fire, it could have been really bad. I hope the hotspots don’t flare up again.
When it jumped back across to the east side, I thought the North Valley might go up bad. Damn! It’s amazing how far the embers will carry, as that new house on the west side that burned was what, a quarter mile away?
I was camping/fishing in the Jemez two weeks ago, and just up in the Sandias last weekend, it’s dry as hell and the ground cover is really bad.
We need controlled burns, but since Los Alamos they need to be more tightly supervised. I don’t understand people who are against thinning the ground cover.
