We’ve already done the impossible, so why not try to do it again?
Frankly, I don’t think it’s going to happen… but it’d be really sweet if it did. That’s an interesting way to keep a show alive (episodes straight to DVD, or downloadable)- I wonder if could revolutionize the way TV works? And hey, if anyone is stubborn enough to pull it off, Joss’d be the guy.
I already signed the petition/interest sheet/signup thingy.
Someone put a question mark in that thread title before someone else craps their pants with glee. Now I have messy pants and no glee. I am gleeless and smelly. Are you happy now, *Lightin’**?
I find this project lacking in even the remotest shred of optimism. “Possible?” If this project really got off the ground, you could bet your life that there would be a boxed set released!
Ack. Every time someone makes a Firefly comeback thread, I get excited. And every time, it’s just speculation. I’m clearly not learning anything, here.
I expect that if anyone who could actually make this happen considered it economically feasible, it would have been announced prior to now – sometime around the release of Serenity, either in theaters or on DVD. Those would have been the best times to generate enthusiasm and momentum for a Season 2 project. The fact that we have heard not a peep of such thing from Whedon says to me that it will never happen.
I keep wondering why Sci-fi doesn’t just pay for a new season. It’s right up their alley, they’ve had good sucess with a number of their series, miniseries.
And it’s not like they don’t have some money to blow. Hell, they can afford to buy all those saturday night movies, 99% of which had to have been made by retarded monkeys.
I’m sure it would fit nicely next to BSG in the lineup.
Actually, peeps there have been, and they have not been good peeps. He has said that he’s moved on, and is not interested in doing a series. Of TV shows. Movies, mayhap, but not TV shows.
perhaps the series can be set prior to the movie? (Not sure why I’m spoiler tagging this.)
I’d like for it to occur to see a further explanation of Book’s mysterious background. One problem is that while I might subscribe to a series of DVDs, I’d probably pass them along to others after I’ve watched them, so the revenues wouldn’t be as great.
Whether or not this particular scheme pans out, I find hope in the fact that people are still obsessing about this show, even after the apparent failure of the Serenity movie franchise.
We’re talking about a show that aired on Fox in 2002, with almost no advertising, a terrible timeslot, and episodes that were shown in the wrong order. A show that was cancelled in the middle of the first season, after only 12 episodes.
It says a lot about the quality of the show, the loyalty of the fans, and the power of word-of-mouth advertising. I have faith that Firefly will return again in one form or another.
Not a bad point. It’s the basis of two threads on the first page. And it’s mentioned in other threads a lot. There was just a thread, “Things you’d like to finally see,” where everyone decribed scenes they’d like to see where cliches were busted, and the line everyone wants to hear was actually delivered. At least three of these “fantasies” were met with the name of a Firefly episode.
