Firefly/Serenity Now!

The past few years, Memorial Day weekend has been 24 Marathon Weekend.

This year, with no 24 to occupy me, it’s going to be something different. My girlfriend has rented the entire Firefly/Serenity collection, and we’ll be entertaining ourselves with that.

I consider myself to be a complete Joss Whedon virgin, so this should be quite the experience.

You lucky bastard!

Ah man… that’s so badass. You’re gonna have a great time, but don’t do something silly like watch the movie first… you didnt really need me to tell you that, right?

Anyrate, the movie is gold, but there are a few duds in the series… not many (given that there only was one series), but a few.

Ok, two.

But even the duds are entertaining.

Firefly is the only tv series I’ve watched certain episodes of twice on DVD. If you like the basic genre (character driven sci fi) I think you’re in for a treat.

The movie manages to be a great cap for the series while also being understandable those who haven’t seen a single episode. Great stuff. Enjoy

Say what?

Well, I’ve borrowed the set of Firefly and it’s sitting around, collecting dust.

Heh, I think my BIL and SIL are planning the same thing. I’m packing up tonight to visit them tomorrow, and the Firefly collection is in my bag for them.

Don’t shoot your wad like the rest of the fanboys.

I wish I could erase a portion of my brain so that I could once again watch Firefly for the first time.

Blasphemy!

When I originally watched Firefly for the first time, I thought I was going to be content watching an episode or two at a time. Little did I know…I think I finished the entire series in two viewings at most.

I watched the series the first time when it got put onto Hulu. I ended up staying up all night two days in a row finishing it. I’m dumbfounded that this series was canceled.

Intelligent series are always cancelled and replaced by competition or reality shows. Network brass believe that’s all the public wants
Thank Og for cable and SciFi

 The movie is crap. Book and Wash!? Goddammit, I’m never picking a favorite character again. It’s the freakin’ kiss of death. But seriously, Firefly and Serenity are the bomb. Have a blast.

That’s a MAJOR SPOILER, by the way.

They are da bomb though.

The series didn’t have a chance on network television - they ran it out of sequence weeks apart in a bunch of different time zones. And it was on Fox - home of the guy with the wife who was fickle. Y’know what I’m talking about - read through my blonde and decipher.

It was especially annoying given that Book had this huge alluded to dark past - that we never actually got to see. Hmph.

But I still thought the movie was good.

“Joss who?”

I’ve heard rumors that some made-for-cable mini movies or mini-series are being considered which would be prequel-ish - possibly occuring before we first meet the characters in Friefly, or maybe something between the last aired episode and the movie
THESE ARE JUST RUMORS though and I’ve yet to find anythhing to substantiate them (maybe they’re just some fans’ wishful thinking

I dunno, considering all flashbacks already shown, we’ve already ‘met all the characters’ at or around the same time they meet each other, so a true ‘origin story prequel’ can’t cover any new ground.
Mal, Zoe - flashbacks in ‘The Message’ and the Big Damn Pilot from the war. Flashbacks in ‘Out of Gas’ regarding how Mal bought Serenity.
Simon, River - flashbacks of the two of them together in ‘Safe’ and the Big Damn Movie, meeting the rest of the crew in the Big Damn Pilot
Book - met the crew in the Big Damn Pilot.
Wash, Kaylee, Jayne, Inara - flashbacks in ‘Out of Gas’ about how they joined the crew or the ship.

There could definitely be more adventures between the BDP and the BDM - even during the run of the show, there’s no real overarching plot that prevents new episodes from being inserted between, with a few caveats, (IE Shindig and Safe are on opposite ends of a cow-smuggling run, so any storyline between them would probably be all in the deep black with a lot of mooing going on in the background.) And something before the main events of the BDP would be interesting, although Book, Simon, and River would not likely be main characters for that.
(And yes, the basic reason for this post was to show off how I know the first chronological appearances of every major character in the Fireflyverse  )
