"Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page."

Every time I click on a thread this afternoon I get this notification. Am I the only one? Is this evidence of some sort of malware?

I don’t know what page I am being saved from. I thought about clicking Allow but on balance that seems stupid.

i’ve got that frequently and intermittently with Firefox

I’m not getting that on Firefox, but then I’m a Member not a Guest. Perhaps the guest-only advertising has something to do with it?

I don’t ever get that - I use FF and adblock

Yes, I’m getting it frequently. I’m pretty sure it’s related to an ad.

And it’s been happening on EVERY FUCKING PAGE I LOOK AT for the past couple of days. It’s getting HIGHLY annoying. Could TPTB look in to it, please?

I just tested by clicking on “allow”, knowing full well I might get malware from it, but it just went to the same page I was already on. It looks like some advertiser, or more likely, the ad broker itself, has some fucked up coding in their script.

I have reported it and I will report it again.

Nothing has changed on this end. It’s the same software and the same version that we’ve had for months.

Is there a new version of Firefox out, some sort of upgrade or change?

And yes, some miscoding in an ad is always a possibility.

Again, I will notify.

I’m looking at the dope on Firefox 3.6.17.

I’m using the only version I’ve ever installed on this machine, since I bought it over a year ago, although I’ve done the updates, when it suggests. Currently at FF v3.6.18, Winblows XP, with all updates nearly current (it’s nagging me about some new ones, and I will do them when it won’t interfere with my use of the machine).

ETA: No updates within the past two weeks, so the sudden onslaught of “redirection” messages are not due to a recent update.

there are security updates that have been made for Firefox 3.6.xx (since versions 4 and 5 have been out) and if you have it notify you of updates or have it get updates then you will have got those. if security updates are made the older browser versions shouldn’t be an issue.

True, but the latest version is 3.6.19, which is really only an update if you have a Mac. And, even then, it actually breaks a function because of a bug in MacOS 10.7 Lion that Apple refused to fix. (They did create a workaround, but it’s only in Firefox 5.0.1, another update you don’t need if you are running on a PC.)

In other words, keeping Firefox 3.6.18 is perfectly fine, unless you are using Mac OS Lion.

Firefox shouldn’t do this unless you specifically request it to. Go to Firefox/Options/Advanced/General/Accessibility and ensure that the box next to Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page is unchecked (which is the default) if you don’t want these warnings. Many sites use redirects for perfectly harmless purposes.
