Firing a bullet at a coin

When I was five years old this one kept me up all night.

If you were to fire a bullet at a coin would the coin fall over or would the bullet go through the coin?

Assuming the coin is not mounted, and is balanced on a rim, it will likely take a solid dent, and fall over.

If you just set it on it’s edge, like on a tree stump, and shoot at it, you’ll most likely never see the coin again. If you brace it or at least put a backstop behind it so you can find it, it will be in a shape similar to a taco shell with a hole and some coin metal “extruded” out the back of it. I learned this when I was 15, for various calibers of weapons.
