I saw this thread title and damn near shouted “YES!!! COOL!!!”. Sad. Anyhow, lets see how this goes…

  1. Nico- The Fairest of the Seasons. I really love this song. There are strings but somehow not cheese-ily (although, unfortunately, I love cheesy strings). And, of course Nico had such a uniquely gorgeous voice.

  2. Kinks- Johnny Thunder. Seems like this came up the last time I participated in one of these. Hmm.

  3. Kinks- Where Have All the Good Times Gone. I was afraid this would happen.

  4. Nick Drake- At the Chime of a City Clock. Gorgeous, uber-relaxing niceness.

  5. Elliot Smith- The White Lady Loves You More. Hmm. Other than the two very upbeat Kinks songs I seem to have established quite a mood. Pretty much everything I have on this thing is upbeat. I really love this album though.

  6. Elliot Smith- I Better Be Quiet Now. My Ipod is stupid today. I have over a thousand songs by many different artists. Really. Anyhow, I never have really listened to this album (Figure 8) and don’t know this song.

  7. Husker Du- Friend, You’ve Got to Fall. I love this band. I hate this song.

  8. Kinks- Village Green Preservation Society. Okay, so I have a lot of Kinks stuff. But come on!. Stupid stupid Ipod.

  9. Pearl Jam- Corduroy. Eh. Guilty pleasure.

I have to admit, I’m a bit disappointed with what mine came up with. It’s not really THAT representative of my musical tastes at all, but nonetheless I like almost everything that came up, at least somewhat. I like that Eric Dolphy, my favourite jazz artist, came up, and I like how the relative rarity Hot Gossip made an appearance, but both Ashlee Simpson AND Miley Cyrus showing up is not particularly something I’m proud of. Oh well.

I tend to use what gets spat out of my random playlist as a horoscope for the day.

My iPod’s larded up with a lot of spoken word stuff, though, so I usually use a cut down playlist. From the entire collection, though:

  1. Lou Reed - Satellite of Love. O.K. - good. Establishing some cred nice and early.
  2. Hunters & Collectors - Where Do You Go? A little mainstream, but O.K.
  3. Baggsmen - Hi-Top Day. Esoteric, but we’re probably building to something.
  4. Capella Istropolitana - *A Tempo di Menuetto *(Hayden) Nope. Apparently not building to anything.
  5. Buffalo Springfield - For What It’s Worth. Retro. That cred’s looking solid.
  6. Marginal Prophets - Pour Some Sugar on Me. …and so much for any possibility of salvaging self-respect out of this list.
  7. Richard Clapton - Best Years of Our Lives. Nope. No self-respect at all.
    7a. Terry Pratchett - Night Watch 084. I’m going to call a Mulligan on that one.
  8. Animaniacs - Variety Speak. I don’t know why this is on here. I mean, I put it on there, but the volume’s so low I can never hear it when it comes up.
