First night on Lunesta; wish me luck!

I have read this thread with interest. I have suffered through bouts with insomnia, but they almost always coincide with increased alcohol consumption. When I drink more than 4 or 5 beers, I have absolutely no problem falling asleep, but there is nearly a 100% chance I will wake up about 3 hours after falling asleep. And I cannot go back asleep.

For the past 8 months, I have been practically alcohol-free. And my sleep patterns are so much better. Even on the odd occasion where I have been drinking, my insomnia has not re-occurred.

But I think I would be scared to take a sleeping aid. I live alone. I am concerned that I would sleep right through the smoke alarm. When I do have guests sleepover, they can’t believe that I can sleep through my dogs snoring. (a bulldog) who sleeps on the floor about 6 feet from head.

I certainly understand your point about being afraid of sleeping pills. However, for me, this particular fear, at least with Lunesta, would be unfounded. So far, my 9YO has successfully woken me from a sound sleep because she needed me, and my sleep is not so sound that the need to use the bathroom doesn’t wake me.

It was actually scarier being on strong narcotics (post-op in September) with no one else home (after my hubby had to return to work and my daughter was at school). But all is well!

So far, the only real side-effect I’m having is the yucky taste in my mouth that lasts half the next day. Gum-chewing, teeth-brushing, drinking strongly flavored drinks, etc. all help while I’m doing them. Then, back to the taste. Fortunately, a gigant-o pack of Orbit gum should be here by Monday!
