First Play

What was the first play ever written?

You’ll never know!
Australian ABorigines have a culture assumed to go back 20,000+ years, apparently never radically changed. An important part of their social and religous life is the Corroboree, a ceremony involving dancing and singing along to enacted stories. These stories can be about events that have happened or been imagined like modern operas, or presumably about creation and worship stories in the closed ceremonies. It’s a safe bet that all people have practised something similar, probably even before the origin of language. The first language may well have consisted of miming and acting accompanied by sounds. So the first play will never be known.
Now the first historically recorded play. Thats another question.

Wasn’t it Everyman?
The name sticks in my head from school.

Sorry! That’s maybe the first in English.
There were lots of Greek plays.
