I’ve been a member of the First Tech Credit Union since, well when it was still the Tektronix Employees CU. A long time. In 2011, it merged with the Addison Avenue Credit Union, which originated as one for H-P employees. Was this a merger of equals, or was one significantly bigger than the other? They kept the 1st Tech name (which was more general) but moved the HQ to California. Does that mean AAFCU was bigger or just that the people in charge prefered to live in California?
Also, is there anywhere I can find a list of companies whose employees are eligible to join First Tech? I’m somewhat familiar with the companies for First Tech from before the merger (Tek, Microsoft, Intel (Oregon locations), Nike, and a number of smaller Oregon tech companies), but not what they added with the merger. Well, they added H-P and Agilent, of course, but any others?
They very well might. The person who sets up new accounts (that might be the teller, or somebody else in the branch) very definitely would know how to find out who is eligible to join.
As it happens, First Tech has a 17-page list of companies whose employees may join, linked from their membership page.
I know for a fact that ordinary tellers do not do new member accounts. There’s specific people who do that. I didn’t want to bother them when they’re working to satisfy my idle curiosity. That’s what the SDMB is for.
Thank you. I looked all over their site, even on that page, for that and somehow missed that link. Now I go to it again and find it right away. Not sure how that happens. Kind of amazed at how many companies they’ve lined up. Used to be a real short list, but that was a long time ago.
