First this pisstard ragged on Mr. Rogers, now Bob Hope?

One post and almost nine minutes. I think we have a new record for “I shall not respond”.

Of course Foolish Freddie hates the Roman Catholic Church. Didn’t you notice in that “lovely” call for protesting someone’s funeral that FF referred to a Catholic cathedral as a whorehouse?

Um, it’s gotta be embarrassing when old Phred has a better vocabulary than you do; he didn’t invent Pecksniffian because the word has been around for quite a while.

The church from hell. I just read in the paper yesterday where this church came down so hard on this kid who was gay (and supposedly a member) that he committed suicide. Now, members of this satanic church are protesting with signs that say “Thank God for 9/11” and other dumb things like that.

I went to that website. THe first page has so many lies on it. Well, being gay is a sin IMO, but so it a ton of other sins that we all are guilty of. The dumbest thing I did see was Jesus only died for those that believe.

The name of this church should be renamed from baptist to Satan.

Hey, wait a minute—didn’t he have anything to say about Katharine Hepburn? A woman who wore pants and lived with a married man?!

If I were her, I’d feel very hurt and left out.

two typos in my last post.

“Well, being gay is a sin IMO, but so it a ton of other sins that we all are guilty of.” SHould be
Well, being gay is a sin IMO, but so is a ton of other stuff that we all are guilty of.

He’s figured out that he can get the publicity by coming out (ha!) at celebrity deaths to say that Well- Loved Celebrities are in Hell.

It’s charitable to suppose that Phelps is psychotic in some way.

But how do you explain his followers??!?!

Weak-minded idiots who want to be told what to think so they don’t have to think for themselves.

As I understand it, the majority (entirety?) of the “Westboro Baptist Church” congregation consists of his own family, and apparently not very nice things happen to you if you decide to leave the clan… there are probably some sites out there that explain this in pretty good detail, and I think there’s a woman who divorced one of Fred’s sons (or maybe an estranged daughter of his?) who relates her story of finally leaving his little cult.

How did I know from the headline that this had to be Phelps again? Probably because Bob Hope was a wonderful man, a real asset to humanity, and that’s exactly the sort of guy Phelps can’t stand.

Well, she sent him a dinner invitation back in 1967, but evidently he declined. I guess Sidney and Spencer scared him away so much he didn’t dare show up where she was again.

Does anyone else think that Fred’s ghost is going to picket his own funeral?

I looked up “Fred Phelps” and “Mother Teresa,” and found several references to a press release titled “Mother Theresa in Hell.” Unfortinately, it seems that the only place to see said press release is at the WBC’s website—and since I haven’t the time this evening to exorcise my PC, I must leave it to the gentle reader to look it up.

With any luck at all, Fred Phelps will die soon and his “church” will commit mass suicide and follow him to the grave. I don’t know what this church teaches, but it sure isn’t Christianity and it sure ain’t Baptist.

How have the people of Topeka allowed this idiot to remain upright and breathing for so long? If any person ever deserved to be the Guest of Honor at a lynching, Fred Phelps is it.

As a Topekan and a Christian I find Fred, his church, and his actions repulsive. But then I must remind myself that my hate for him is no better, or more moral, than his hate for all things not Phelps.

I remind myself that nobody is beyond the hope of redemption, not even Fred. If I believe that Saul of Tarsus, sort of a proto-Fred in his day, could become St. Paul, a follower of Christ, then I must believe that Fred could have his own Damascus experience.

Of course, if Fred showed up blinded at my door, and said God had told him that I was supposed to look after him for three days, then I might need, as did Ananias, my own revelation that this was cool.

But it is so hard. And they are so nasty, and their “theology” is so heretical.

Down girl. Got to go read this again.

Yeah – but being gay is not something you can change. Being ignorant, bigoted, and/or judgmental, on the other hand, is.

Peace to you too.

I don’t know. I wonder if Satan (not the former poster) would be nicer than Mr. Phelps.

I wasn’t being judgmental. That came from the old testament. I don’t hate gays, and I don’t believe that God hates fags.
Saying IMO that gay is a sin is not being either what you said. My opinion on it is that, even though you can’t help it, I think you will have to overcome (what I like to call) a huge challenge in your life test.

Anyway, I’m not going to state it as fact. That’s why I said IMO

I’ll let the actual judgment of it up to God. I’m not judging gays. It’s not my place on this earth, and believe me, I have my own stuff I have to work out instead of worrying about others.

I’m going to make a point here, kputt. And I want you to think about this.

In no major religion is being gay a sin, that I am aware of.

Acting on being gay, that is, having sexual relations or lusting after other men, however, might be, depending on the church. It’s like a priest being celibate: He’s still straight, that is, oriented towards women, but he can not act on his desires, and in fact, lusting itself is a sin.

Do you understand the fine difference between the two concepts? A man can not only be gay, but be fabulous, flaming, and outrageous. He can march at Stonewall, be one of the Sisters of Perpetual… I forget, the SF group. As long as he performs no homosexual acts, and, depending on the religion, as long as he does not lust in his heart after other men. (There is a difference between simple attraction and lust, one should note)

Furthermore, depending on the interpretation of the bible you read, even homosexual acts may be allowed, as long as you don’t whore male children around.
