I’ve an old humminbird fish finder. Its a model TCR 101. Santa brought it to me several years ago.
I used it for a couple of years and then had to quit fishing. Fishfinder stored inside and transponder still connected to the boat stored covered but outside.
Decided to start fishing again this year but fish finder would not work.
All I get is the simulator.
So does this tell me that the transducer is bad?
Is there a way to check a transducer?read ohmeter.
The wiring seems to be OK no scrapes cuts or mouse chewing.
The plug ins look shiny so no corrosion.
So how do these things work? Same as a metal detector? Is the transducer just a coil of wire?
If you start the device on dry land, you should be able to hear the transducer clicking out its little pulses (it’s not loud, get close.)
A few years ago, I had a transducer fail with no apparent physical damage. It happens, and you should be able to get a new transducer-and-wire at a dealer or from Humminbird.
You asked how it works. It’s sonar, a shrunken version of what submarines use.
