We just got a new fish tank for my goldfish and it keeps swimming to each of the front corners. We have conditioned the water and all that stuff. I just hope hes okay.
Is the water the same as you’ve used for him before?
Do you have a water test kit? If not get one. If so, what are the parameters?
How long has he been in there? How big is the tank? The fish?
The most likely answer is that the tank is cycling and he’s suffering from ammonia poisoning. really need to test that water!
Another possibility is that he can see his reflection in the corners and is attempting to interact with the “other” goldfish.
We’ve tested the water and its apparently good, just a tiny tiny bit too much nitrate or nitrite which is apparently ok but yeah the old tank was plastic and one of the things I noticed was that it was quite reflective so I think its that. Its a 19 litre tank. Also he is about 7cm long. He’s been in there for about 24 hours now. We looked online for things to do for when we got a new tank and it said to dangle some of the old gravel down in a sock so like all the bacteria could pass through. And we tipped some of his old water into it.
Poor little thing probably is a little freaked out about its world suddenly changing. It may take it a little while to get used to its new boundaries.
Goldfish will gulp air if the water condition is bad. Try getting some plastic plants to put in and give him some hiding spots.
I’ve seen him go up to the surface a couple of times and do that gulping thing, and once I’ve seen him do a burp kinda thing.
Turn the light off for a day or 2 so he can see out and calm down.
Make some batter and get the chips ready:)
Did you check the temp of the water too?
Gold Fish always get screwed out of the french fries.
Goldfish are carp, they’ve evolved to live in dirty water, but that’s just dirt, nitrates, and low oxygenation. There could be other substances in the water bothering the fish. You mentioned conditioner which should have neutralized ammonia and chlorine, so the water quality is probably good enough. If you don’t have an aerator you should get one, and a filter too. Have you been feeding him? I don’t want to make a recommendation, but some people don’t feed their fish for a couple of days after a move. You should see him shed his intesinal lining at some point, it looks like a dark string coming out of his rear end. That’s a good sign, typical after some change in environment. I think it’s probably just a shock to him to have a change in his environment. Hanging around in corners can mean many things, but it’s probably the best hiding place he can find while he’s feeling insecure.
