How horrific. Those poor women.

I haven’t read more than a few headlines. I will not look for images because I will have nightmares. Even with the limited knowledge I have of this event my heart is shattered for the families of those women.
Yes, it’s horrible. It was a bachelorette party and the bride was one of the dead.
It’s not. look at a smoker’s car seat and you’ll likely see all kinds of burns. Cars have to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 302 - Flammability of Interior Materials - Passenger Cars, Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles, Trucks, and Buses
(Effective 9-1-72)
This standard specifies burn resistance requirements for materials used in the occupant compartments of motor vehicles. Its purpose is to reduce deaths and injuries to motor vehicle occupants caused by vehicle fires, especially those originating in the interior of the vehicle from sources such as matches or cigarettes.
It’s not. Limousine companies generally don’t allow smoking in their cars. It’s impossible to get the smell out.

Vehicles route fuel lines alone the bottom of the car, never through the interior. I don’t think that is even legal.
There’s a lot of flame there on the exterior. The fuel tank must have ignited somehow. Nothing inside that limo could have caused or been the fuel for that fire.
Agreed. The pics would have shown a different burn pattern if the fire were interior.
This is a horrible situation, no doubt. But something about this, IMO, stinks. As others have pointed out there just isn’t a satisfactory mechanical reason why such a fire would break out. I think one of the women may have been smoking and dropped a bottle of liquor, or worse and even more inexplicably, planned to set the car on fire.
You need 100 proof or higher liquor to burn at all, and much higher to be accidentally ignited. It doesn’t matter because that fire was on the exterior of the passenger compartment. Somehow that gas tank ignited.
Again, smoking is frowned upon in a limo and will be listed in the contract.
You can see a thin line of flames underneath the car. I would think the fuel line ruptured. It would be very easy to scrape a line while driving over a raised railroad track. Eventually the line ruptures.
Having set up a number of bus tours over the years I’ve learned to avoid elevated tracks so that the bus doesn’t drag the bottom going over them.
I’m frickin amazed nobody on the highway had a fire extinguisher. I’ve carried one in my car for as long as I can remember. I pulled over a truck once which had a brake fire. I let the driver put it out.
And this is how ignorance gets propagated. You know nothing about how fires start, how they are propagated and how flame retardant most cars are. Good god. What you are proposing happened is as unlikely as you becoming a rocket surgeon because you have seen the shuttle take off and had your appendix removed.
Just saw on Facebook…one of the people in the car was the cousin to an old coworker’s of mine’s brother and sister in law
Thanks for reminding me. I have a long car trip planned for the summer, and I should include a fire extinguisher. Thanks again!
I pretty sure that you have fewer degrees of separation to Kevin Bacon than to these folks.
The fact is they’re people he knew.
Huh, and people looked at me funny when I suggested bringing a fire extinguisher on our road trip.
I think I’m more closely related to you than that.
Horrible tragedy. I’m also wondering how that happened. Did the windows not open either? Every limo I’ve ever been in has at least 2 doors in the back.
Very sad.
