Fiver takes Reykjavik

So here I am in the world´s northernmost capital city. I´m terribly jetlagged, but determined to make a full day of it before I crash.

I´ve stopped in at a youth center with free-use Internet connections to check my mail and say hi to all of you. It´s chilly but not excessively so: in the 40s Fahrenheit. I´m headed for the museums, which have (predictably) scads of Viking history and artifacts. Later I´ll check out the night life.

Tomorrow I´ll learn firsthand why this Blue Lagoon thing is such a big deal. I hope to see a glacier too, but I don´t know if there´s one a close distance from Reykjavik.

To answer before any of you can ask: no, I have not seen Björk. Nor do I expect to.

Any questions? Ask the Icelandic tourist guy!

How many beers have you and bj0rn downed yet? Does he get more coherent when drunk?

You want questions?

What illness do you have that you have to take “Reykjavik”?
How often do you have to take it?
Does it impare your ability to drive?

Enjoy Iceland. I’ve heard that it is beautiful country and the people are very nice.

Yay! Iceland is definitely a beautiful country. Maeglin and I were going to move there last year.

Re: tourism, we didn’t make it to the Blue Lagoon, but we did take one of the bus tours (which aren’t all that expensive) around to Geyser and Gullfoss (sp?), etc…

How long are you there for?

Here’s a question for you -

Do they show Survivor in Iceland?

Paul

Oooh and another thing. Watch out for silver jewelry. It turns “gold” under Icelandic water. It freaked the shit out of me when I was there

Fiver, if you have time, go to the big swimming pool on the south end of Reykjavik. It’s amazing. Lots and lots of hot bubbly fun! Hope you can get used to all that light!

Sorry I can´t bold your names; this NFBSK Icelandic keyboard doesn´t have the square brackets.

ellele: All what light? It´s cloudy all the time here. The sun may be up past midnight, but I´ve seen very little of it.

Paul The Younger: I don´t know. I haven´t seen any television since I´ve arrived here.

Pucette: I´ve just come from the Blue Lagoon. It was absolutely, absolutely wonderful. Cheap at 800 IKR for three hours. Getting into a 104 degree open-air thermal pool when it´s only in the 40s outside is amazing. It´s like there´s a party in my pores, and everyone´s invited!

Tomorrow I´m either going on the Geysir/Gulfoss tour or I´m going to see Sneffels. Haven´t decided yet.

Coldfire: Haven´t met bj0rn and haven´t sought him out. I´ve traded some email with Dagger, but he´s in final exams and can´t come to meet me.

sigh

Well that´s true, but there´s a light at the end of the tunnel.

Well, considering she lives in England, I don’t think you’d run into her in Reykjavík.

The nightlife in Iceland is pretty good if you know where to go. Don’t ask me, 'cause every time I go there I get led around by friends and semi-relative type people, so I have no clue. Oh, and did you know that pastelike stuff at the bottom of the Blue Lagoon is really good for your teeth, treating psoriasis, etc? Amazing stuff.

So, Fiver, what do you think of the women up there?

Did you take Manhattan and Berlin first?

If you enjoy history, you should try to see the law rock at Thingvellir plain.I may have spelled that wrong, but I hope it helps.

ssskuggiii

No, but almost every yahoo who learned I was going to Iceland asked me that question, so I figured I’d start heading folks off at the pass.

Well, I put some on my head, so we’ll see what it does for baldness. But I’m shuddering at the thought of putting it in my mouth…it was slimy and smelled like rotten eggs!

They’re beautiful. The shopgirls are beautiful. The barmaids are beautiful. The airline agents are beautiful. The hostel clerks are beautiful. The young women are beautiful. The old women are beautiful. The slim, fat, tall, short, blonde, brunette women…all are beautiful! It’s a wonderful country.
