Fixing a broken zipper

I’ve got a fleece type sweatshirt that zips up the front and it went through the dryer. Now the zip is all bunched up – like when a plastic bag gets heated. Instead of being straight the zip is wavy when viewed side on. It’s still wearable but it now has serious tenting, which doesn’t look very good!

Does anyone know how I might get the zip straight again?

It sounds like the fleecy stuff shrank a bit, and the zipper’s fabric didn’t. The only way to fix it is to take apart the seam that holds the zipper to the shirt and reassemble it. If the shirt shrinks a little more after the repair, though, you’ll have the same problem again.

You might try using an iron on low heat to flatten it back out again.

Hey I have a related question.

Why after a while do all my zippered coats have this problem? You zip it up correctly but after you zip the bottom part slowly becomes unzipped. It’s like the teeth don’t lock or something. How do you fix this?

My beautiful winter coat is having this problem and it gets cold up here.

This indicates the zipper is worn. The reliable fix is to replace the zipper.
