Fixing Itunes Library files?

We have about half of our iTunes library on an external hard drive vs the computer’s C drive. Once, a while back, the computer did not recognize the external drive; I happened to sync the iPod, and it “forgot” the location of all those files. When I reconnected the drive, the computer recognized the drive but iTunes did not. I had to go through each and every song it couldn’t find and manually reset the links.

So I did it to myself again. This time because I needed to reset the drive letter for that external drive.

Aha, I thought, I can just edit the “itunes music library” file and change all the “G:”
references to “F:”. Unfortunately, that didn’t work. The “Itunes library” file is a data file that can’t really be edited.

Any tricks to ease the “manually rebuild Every. Frickin’. Link” step?

In itunes did you try edit>preferences>advanced>itunes music folder location to pick the drive and folder?
