So today my Xbox had a little surprise for me and that surprise was a big FU that came in the form of three little red rings.
As luck would have it, it went off its three year warranty in september.
Has anyone here tried to fix the RROD? How did you do it? I would particularly apprecite fixing it in a way that doesn’t ban me from Xbox Live.

I got multiple RRODs when I had Rock Band/Guitar Hero instruments hooked up directly to the 360; too much power demand on the system is a problem. I could reliably get it to RROD by unplugging and plugging in either the guitar or drums (when the other was also plugged in). Note that “I” in this case was actually my then 10-year old son; I figured once was enough, but he was apparently possessed by the spirit of scientific experimentation.
So, if you have stuff plugged in to the USB, take it out and restart, and then buy a powered USB hub.
