What is the best configuration of open and closed windows on a 35 foot school bus to promote maximum air flow and circulation of cool fresh air. All windows down is not an effective configuration.
Unless someone has tested this, I doubt you’ll get more than WAGs, so here’s mine:
A few windows open on each side in the very front, middle windows all closed, a few windows open in the very back. Sounds like it should get a nice wind-tunnel effect going for all the passengers between the open windows. Driver might be mostly screwed, though. (You’re the driver, aren’t you? :p)
Remove the windshield and emergency door in the back. I can’t imagine it getting any better than that.
I have ridden in and driven MANY school buses in Texas. Here, there is no cool air flow through the bus because the air is not cool. Generally, the open windows give a sort of hair-dryer effect of hot air blowing in the face. I imagine that Florida must be similar.
Good luck.
The trick is keeping the kids from messing with any configuration you do come up with. They will all try to lower their windows and mess the whole thing up.
You really need to use what sailors did: funnels to catch the breeze and force it into the ship (or bus, in this case).
