I’ve been reading Flannery O’Connor’s collected works for the past month. (Yes, I read slowly, but then it is 1220 pages. 150 to go!) Just now, I realized that it would be her 100th birthday … yesterday. D’oh! I’m off by a day. ln any case, happy belated birthday, Miss O’Connor! I’m sorry you didn’t get to live the last 61 years of your century – f***ing lupus – but you produced an amazing body of work in that short time. I only wish I were intelligent enough to fully appreciate it.
It’s been 25+ years since I read her stuff in college, but her short stories stood out as great reads from that time in my life.
