Flea infestation w/o pets

In the last couple of weeks we have been invaded by fleas, which seem to be hanging out in the carpets in the living room and bathrooms.

We don’t have any pets, but the neighbors have dogs and cats and there was a feral mother and kittens in the bushes near our door for a while recently. (Happy ending: mother trapped, spayed and released, kittens treated and adopted.)

My kids also play daily at a field where there are likely all sorts of critters lurking.

Is there any way to get rid of these things and discourage more from coming in?

You probably need to have your yard and house sprayed for fleas. They live in the yard, so without pets, the kids are probably bringing them in a few at a time, and now they are multiplying.
Worst part is lacking a proper host (a pet) they are going to be biting you instead.

Found any mysterious Chunky wrappers?
