OK, so we can buy pills for dogs to take, that keep fleas away. Why can’t we, as humans, buy a pill to take, that keeps mosquitoes away? Is the pill we feed our dogs every month really that bad?

My guess would be that it would just be too expensive to go through all the testing neccesary for use on humans. It’s a long, expensive process for something that would probably have only a niche market.
FWIW, you can accomplish the same thing w/ a teaspoon of vinegar per gallon of water in the pup’s water dish. He probably won’t like it at first, but will get used to it pretty quickly. It worked pretty well against fleas and ticks for the dog I had as a kid and didn’t seem to hurt her any (she lived to 18).
Maybe I can help. As a former camp counselor and the fact that I live across the street from a " protected wetland" I have learned how to keep the mosquito’s away.
Do not wear scented lotions, perfumes, hair shampoo/conditioner/gel/spray, deoderants, laundry detergents or fabric softeners. They are attracted to smells. I only wear scented body lotion in the winter. If I did this from April to October, I’d be a walking Buffett for the damn things, and we ain’t talking Jimmy.
Instead of spraying yourself with OFF, spray your clothing.Hats, shoes and socks too.
3)Mosquitos do not like smoke. If you can, do tiki torches or candles. I have never really noticed a big difference with citronella ones at all. If you are camping, get your clothing all smoky by the camp fire.
There was a pill that you could buy through outdoor magazines that repels mosquitoes. As a matter of fact I believe a outdoor showhosted by Jay Gregory was advertising one a couple of months ago. Can’t remember the name of the show right now but I’ll get back to you.
My own experience is not too good though. I bought a bottle of the pills and took the correct dose and also took an antihistanine for hay fever. BIG mistake. I started to sweat and just felt awful. I remember getting back home and I had to lay down cause I didn’t think I could stand up anymore. In a couple of hours I felt OK.I threw them away.
The name of the show is The Wild Outdoors.
Jay has not answered my email yet.I am sure you can find the name of a repellant pill in outdoor magazines.IIRC it is garlic based.
