Thank you Flea. Thank you for reaffirming my faith in Rock and Roll. Thank you for never faking the funk, and for being an inspiration to all your humble followers. Instruct us in the way to true enlightenment. You are the reason I play Bass Guitar, and I can never thank you enough.
I (along with 80,000 others) went to Slane Castle, Co. Meath, to see U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Kelis, jj72, and Relish play in beautiful sunshine. Everyone was in a good mood. I didn’t see one fight, wasn’t offered drugs once, and there was even ample toilet facilities. (well, there always is for men, anyway ;))
There were many highlights. Flea singing the Irish National Anthem. A sea of lighters and burning coke cups in the air when U2 sang “Staring at the Sun”. The look of disbelief on the face of the lead singer of Coldplay at the brilliant reaction of the crowd to their songs (particularly “Yellow”) Kelis actually impressing me. The highpoints went on and on.
The best moment for me was the Red Hot Chili peppers playing “Higher Ground”. Anthony Kiedis asked for everyone to remove their t-shirts and swing them around their heads. 80,000 people obliged. It was incredible. An Absolutely amazing moment. Almost religious.
Just had to share.
