Flies and lightbulbs...

…So yesterday after noon I went to get the mail. Upon my return, I discovered that a housefly had apparently followed me in (either that or admit that I need to clean my apartment). After driving my cat crazy for about 30 minutes, I noticed that this fly decided to perch on a lit light bulb. It crawled all over the glass, walking back and forth. And I thought about how I always burn my fingers if I try touching a hot bulb. So why didn’t the fly burn his little insect feet? I’m presuming that flies have nerve endings that register temperature veriations. Are flies less susceptible to heat than humans? This bothered me, even after I managed to subdue him with a rolled up copy of Rolling Stone. Shouldn’t the glass have been too hot for him to walk on?

Flies have sticky, hairy pads on their feet. Guess they must be well-insulated.
