I can’t believe this story is almost one day old and there’s next to nothing on the US news websites.
Link to BBC article.
Follow-up by Reuters.
This might get messy.
I did hear it covered on All Things Considered this afternoon.
Make no mistake, there is precious little news in the US. If there’s a sexier story out there with more pull, it’ll get reported instead. It’s called infotainment.
The fact that complaints from elected officials that some Florida ballots were missing a page went unheeded was virtually ignored by the media. (How’ya like that syntax?) It shows up today as a footnote: http://www.sptimes.com/2004/10/28/Decision2004/Gov_Bush__Poll_watche.shtml
Let’s face it… it’s already messy.
Is it too late to give Florida back to Spain?
Do you know how much UPS would charge to ship that much dirt across the atlantic?
Don’t worry about all those absentee ballots. They’ll show up in time. Jeb and the gang are working as fast as they can but need more pencils.
We’re working on it. (Or haven’t you been to Florida lately?)
And USPS, UPS, and FedEx all charge an arm and a leg for gator packaging.
An obnoxiously partisan relative of mine pointed to this as an example of the Democrats trying to steal the election. He firmly believes that the only way for Bush to lose is if the “damn Democrats” can get away with “stealing” the election “like they tried to last time.” We looked for more information online and found the BBC article. Broward County is mentioned, which, I believe, is more to the Democratic side. My relative said that it’s the Republicans that usually vote absentee, so it would be the Republican votes that wouldn’t get counted.
