You have more faith in the powers of psychiartry than I do, Bosda. Psych testing, and evaluation is far more a haphazard thing than most people would want to admit. For all my disagreements with AHunter3, I’m with him there.
Whatever the intent of such testing, the effect I fear would be to ostracize far more children than it would ever help.

It’s not beyond mine. See, sometimes when estranged parents fight over a child, she becomes a piece of property, not an individual. In order to do something like this, you first have to dehumanize the victim. His anger at his ex helped him do that. Mix in all the cultural messages we get about male privilege and the fact that we don’t teach ANYONE (much less men) how to cope constructively with inner turmoil and feelings of rage, and this is the natural consequence.
Am I the only person who sees the root causes of this behaviour all around me?

First, in my experience MOST people learn how to ‘cope constructively with inner turmoil and feelings’ from an early age, male and female alike. However, some men are lacking in such areas, as are some women…regardless of which, neither are likely to kill their own child as a consequence. Such acts are reserved for the extreme minority, both male AND female.
IOW, it’s not a ‘natural consequence’ by any stretch of the sociological imagination.

It’s not JUST the poor socialization, it’s everything all mixed together that makes a cocktail of incoherent rage which leads to poor decision making and manifests in acts of misogyny.
Maybe I have heard more stories of fathers who murder their estranged wives and children. There was one in B.C. who locked his children in the house and burned it to the ground - I’ll never forget that one. Maybe I just pay closer attention and I see more of these cases than you do, which leads me to see it as a bigger problem, a systemic problem.
It’s not a bloody ‘systemic’ problem…the problem is with the individual males AND females who are psychotic enough to murder their children as an act of revenge against their ex-spouse.
Tell me, for all the separations and divorces that occur in the US (or indeed the west generally) how many of them result in dead kids? What’s the percentage?

Totally agreed. There have been a number of reports of women killing the children too. Susan Smith comes to mind. In any event, we’re talking about a very small number of psychotic individuals. Far too few to make any kind of extrapolation about society in general.
