Flying and Orgasms in Dreams

In those glorious “flying dreams”, how is it that you get off the ground? For me, there is an element of “mind over matter”, but I usually need to get started by either running or motions very similar to the breast stroke.
Also, I realize that it is common for guys to have wet dreams, and I know woman do as well, but what types of dreams, (besides the usual sex) end in this for you? Personally, I am awakened by orgasms whenever I steal a car. No, I am not a klepto.

Nowadays, I tend to instantly go lucid as soon as I start dreaming, as I’ve come to be very good at recognizing a dream. I can usually fly just by imagining some force propelling me off the ground at an angle. It’s quite difficult for me to control my flight exactly, and I often end up tumbling around and hurtling through the sky at blinding speed and in an unpredictable direction. Whole lot of fun, as it feels very realistic.

As for sex, I’ve never had a nocturnal emission (I’m a guy) but I have had the occasional orgasm in a dream. Feels much like a real life orgasm but there’s no clean up, as I’m just shooting my wad all over my subconscious. I can also suck my own dick in dreams. Unfortunately, I can usually only reach orgasm in dreams by masturbating, because any women I conjure up tend to dissolve into thin air pretty quickly.

Didn’t you forget the punchline: “And when I woke up, my pillow was…”

As for me, I haven’t dreamed I was flying in ages. The corollory is that I haven’t dreamed I was falling (a reasonably common nightmare for me) in about the same time period. I also haven’t dreamed the “I’m in a public place and I suddenly realize I’m naked” dream either. (What up with that?)

However, I still dream the “I’m in high school and I haven’t studied or turned in any homework all quarter, and finals are in two days” dream. All the time. Pisses me off, but the reality (I’m not in school any longer but I have to get up and go to WORK) isn’t any more pleasant. :frowning:

I usually just jump and don’t bother coming back down.

Occasionally I have dreams where gravity goes all wonko on me and I have to grab onto things to keep from being flung into outer space. For some reason, Bill Cosby is always there. Don’t ask–I don’t know why either.

Once in a blue moon, I’ll have a portable flying device of some sort I’ll use.

As for orgasms, I don’t get any even in dreams.

Flying, usually some kind of swimmning motion, (apart from the once I flew aroun on the back of a paper airplane) Problem is I keep flying into electricity cables . . .

I first read of lucid dreaming in Omni magazine. Anyone know if this magazine is still around or in another incarnation?

I love to fly in my dreams. My method is simple enough, I run, I flap, I fly. For those who have not attempted to control their dreams, I urge you to try it.

I begin by falling off of a very tall building (parking garages work) and “aim” toward a soft spot to land (lake) and then the manuevering begins, and I can regain height. I have had sex a good bit in dreams lately (gotta get it SOMEWHERE), but rarely have a mess to clean up, only once in last ten years or so.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a dream about flying. I remember falling in my dreams though. I’ll be at the top of a building fighting with someone and I’ll get pushed off. I always wake up before I hit the pavement though. Is it true that if you die in your dream you die for real?? Maybe that’s an old wives tale but I’m sure I heard that somewhere. I have pretty violent dreams sometimes. Dreams that I’m fighting and getting shot and stabbed, pushed off of buildings, car wrecks, etc. Nothing like what my life is really like… it’s kinda freaky.

I’ve had several dreams where I’m having sex and it really does feel like the real thing. Sometimes I dream I’m having sex with my SO and other times I can’t see the person’s face. Wonder what that means. Usually I wake up and am really horny so I have to wake up my SO and have sex with him for real! He likes it when I have dreams like that.

I used to be able to lucid dream when I was in high school, but haven’t been able to do that for years now. Also, haven’t flown in a while, either, but I remember just running, jumping and then not coming down. I was always afraid of going too high in the off chance I suddenly plummeted in midflight.

Still have the ‘nocturnal emissions’ and love em. There’s been celebrities, faceless women, and most recently…my wife. I wonder if that’s trying to tell me something about our sex life?

I don’t remember a lot of details of dreams usually. I can’t ever remember flying in a dream.

Dreams that have made me orgasm usually include some sort of danger like vampires or wild animals. For instance, I might be the vampire or I might be being seduced by a vampire or my dream lover and I have just narrowly escaped from a wild animal that was out to get us. It doesn’t happen very often though. Maybe 10 times in my whole life.

Never had any flying dreams. I’ve never had any “real” falling dreams, though I do have these weird dreams while I’m falling asleep where I’m walking, and then I trip, and fall very very far down. It wakes me up usually.

As for sex dreams, I have them rather frequently, and wake up right with the orgasm. It’s a wonderful feeling… As for the person, it’s usually a faceless person.

I have the most vivid dreams just about every night. I often dream of flying. But now that I think about it, I don’t know how I get into the air. But once I am flying, I often have to avoid those damn power lines. I fly over trees and neighborhoods mostly. I also dream of flying over bodies of water, but only where I can see land around some part of the water. My flying dreams are my absolute favorite!

Good question. I don’t know (there was a GQ thread about this, but I don’t think they answered it conclusively).

Like you, Rachelle, I usually wake up before I actually die. I did get stabbed in the back with a knife in my dream once, and I woke up just as the knife went in (sorry if that’s too much TMI), so even that isn’t conclusive one way or the other.

Rachelle, Rachelle! Tsk. No! How could anyone know, if someone who has just died was dreaming they were dying? Even old wives can’t know that.

Then again, has anyone ever dreamed of dying and woken up to report the death? If no one ever had, that might be strong circumstantial evidence for the tale being true. (Well, I think I have dreamed that I’ve died, for one.)

I’ve dreamed of being shot in the head and i woke up, definitly after it happened. One of the few nightmares I’ve ever had in my life, normally my dreams are almost normal happenings of my day.

I have had the most incredibly real-seeming dreams of flying. I start off on the ground, leaping like a gazelle, and my leaps get longer and higher and then I’m soaring through the trees. I think that I’m in a place like Africa, with tall, lacy, spreading trees and occasionally water. There are never other people around and no signs of civilization. The best thing about these dreams is the feeling of motion and the incredible detail. Words cannot describe it well enough.

As for sleeping orgasms, the only time I have ever had them is when I was seven months pregnant. They were not preceeded by any dream that I can remember, and I would wake up at the tail-end of them.

Beautiful! Orgasms without effort.

Perhaps it was just reading Ann Rice’s series of the vampire Lestat but I dreamed about flying, somethiing I had only heard about in my sister’s bragings.

The worst part is that once I learned how to make my body rise above the ground, I devoted all my energies to returning to the ground.

**** Freud!

For once in my life I actually enjoyed being asleep.

Well, other than that dream I had as a child where I was trapped hiding underground with the next door neighbor’s wife.

**** him all to ****.

a lot and we use airplanes to do it with. One of the most common is trying to take off on a street and the power lines keep getting more numerous and you can’t find a place to pull up through. Almost all of the pilots I have ever asked, about a 100 so far, say they have this type of dream.

As a child I had falling dreams every night. I hit bottom every time too. I slept on the top bunk. My folks would not put up a rail. Pop said I would learn not to do that. Took about 2 years. Later the family story was how the folks would not go to sleep until I had fallen and gotten back in bed. I seemed to fall right after going to sleep. I got so used to it that I knew when I had fallen and before I could hit the floor, I would wake enough to know what was happening and to consciously make myself relax so hitting the floor would not hurt so much.

I have never fallen out of bed since that time, not even drunk. I still have a few of my ‘regular’ dreams and they seem like old friends. I can not control them but I know when they are happening and they do not scare me anymore.

I also used to have dreams in which I’d be endlessly falling. Just when I was about to make a slortar pancake across the pavement, I’d discover it was really the edge of another cliff and I’d fall over that. Over. And over. And over. Do you know how boring impending death can get when it’s repeated 15 or 20 times over?

I seldom fly, but I often find myself floating, as if in zero gravity. Usually after this happens the dream becomes semi-lucid.

But it’s very seldom, if ever, associated with a sex dream. In fact, in every sex dream I’ve ever had, I’ve awoken before actually penetrating. I’ve had plenty of pornographic dreams, including some where other people are having sex, but as soon as I begin to participate, I wake up. So I’ve never had an orgasm in my sleep.

Dammit.

(On the flip side, though, I never have nightmares, either. Nothing I’ve dreamt of has scared me since I was a teenager, and I have dreamt of some disturbing shit…)
