Last night I went to see the juggling troupe Flying Karamazov Brothers in their show, “Life: A Guide for the Perplexed.” They present several rules about life, and interpret those rules through their juggling.
For instance: “Rule 1: Everybody’s a juggler.” Cue simple juggling routines.
“Rule 14: There are no rules.” Cue a complex improv lengthy juggling routine. This was VERY fun to watch, especially their recoveries from dropping clubs.
Of course, they had their “Stump the Champ” challenge. The audience provides assorted objects, then selects three for the Champ to juggle. He gets three tries to juggle the objects for a count of 10, and may make three modifications to the objects. If he succeeds – he receives a standing ovation. If he fails – he takes a pie in the face. Last night, the objects were a life preserver, a Barry Manilow LP album, and a box with a weight inside (making the box spin oddly in the air). Again, this was quite a treat to watch.
I know there’s several juggling fans on the Dope (hi Opal!). Has anybody else seen this show? Who wants to know more, so I can encourage them to go see it?
