Foaming Antacids

I bought a bottle of Life Brand Chewable Foaming Antacids today. Reading the directions and ingredients on the side it says, in bold lettering, Do not swallow whole.

I normally buy Gaviscon which is the same foaming type of antacid and although I do not have a bottle at the moment to compare I’m pretty sure it says the same thing.

I just wondered what would happen if I swallowed one whole. What is the worst thing that could happen to me?

Ever had an Upper G.I. series?

They give you this stuff that is basically expanding foam, to coat the entire inside of the stomach, for x-ray purposes. Very, very, uncomfortable, btw (YMMV).

I’d imagine your whole tablet of antacid, unchewed, would foam and expand in a similiar way.

Well, at least it seems that you don’t have to worry about exploding.
