Fogging Windows

Hi again,
I’ve tried so many different products that claim to elimanate fog from my windows. At first I thought only that it was b/c my windows were dusty or not “squeaky clean”, but after cleaning them almost obsessively it still didn’t help much on my drive back home from Florida. Then I researched the science behind fogging/precipatation. So turning the heater on solves things (after the car warms up). But it still makes me wonder, why isn’t anything working and is there a cheaper solution than buying some anti-fog stuff on the net that GUARANTEES it will work. Any help is appreciated.

I’ve found that most anti-foggers act and smell almost exactly like isopropyl alcohol, which can be purchased much more cheaply. Since it evaporates so quicly, I can only assume that the anti-fogging agent is dissolved in it, but occasionally I have thought, “what if it’s just the isopropyl alcohol itself which is doing the work?”

The fogging problems I have with my waterlogged rolling tampon might lead me to test this theory this winter. For now, the only possible explanation I can give for why a pure isopropyl alcohol solution might work is because it may reduce the microscopic layer of water which coats virtually everything around us.

I was in the car cleaning business for awhile and tried all sorts of crap. Waxing the windows inside made it worse, for some reason, but it also makes them far easier to wipe clean and they seem to defrost faster. Armor-all and similar tire-shines may actually repel condensation, but it also seriously mars nighttime visibility and if you did an entire windscreen with it, which I didn’t, you’d probably be driving around like Mr. Magoo. Other than that, I have no solution for your solution.

Stop breathing so heavily in your car. :dubious:

Hi thinktank,

As Sofa King stated, waxing the windows on the inside can make a mess. During my detailing experience, I have found that using Rain-X on this inside windows helps reduce the fog dramatically, and if no rain-X is available, then Meguires gold class wax does a good job also (easy on, easy off)

I regularly "Rain-X inside and outside my windows now.
