Following Along: A guide to reading Tom King's Batman/Catwoman limited series (open spoilers)

I just got Issue No. 3 of Tom King’s Batman/Catwoman limited series. It’s a beautiful book with intimate examinations of the lives and minds of its characters, with Catwoman/Selina Kyle being the principal focus, especially in terms of her relationships with Batman/Bruce Wayne, the Joker, and her daughter (Batwoman/Helena Wayne).

I’d love to discuss this book with anyone reading along. It’s the one comic I’m buying on a month-to-month basis. (These days, I mostly read collections. And a month ago, I signed up for D.C. Universe Infinite, where I’m delving into D.C.'s extensive back catalogue.)

The story is a little complicated to read, though, especially at the beginning, because it takes place in three separate times, with action interlaced, sometimes without a clear signal of the transition. You kind of have to look for certain clues to understand which time you are in.

After reading Issue No. 3, I decided to go back through the first three issues as construct a chronological timeline, which I’m calling “Past,” “Andrea,” and “Future” or “blue,” “red,” and “white,” for the colors that seem to be prominent in each timeline’s palette (at least in Issue No. 1—I don’t know whether it will hold; also I am color deficient, so I might have gotten them wrong).

After doing this, I wanted to share it, in case anyone else was following this story and was interested, and wanted to talk about it. I’ll spoiler it, just in case.

I’ve organized the sequences by their order in each timeline, and designated them with the issue number followed by a decimal showing the order the sequences appeared in the issue. I’ve tried to use very brief descriptions of each sequence, without getting into extensive detail.

I hope this is of interest to some folks, at least. I’m really enjoying this series, and I’d love to share my enthusiasm …

Thanks! I’ll be back after I read the books.

So many times I’ve wished someone had done this for a complex book/comic/series I’m reading…

ps, Tom King is frickin’ brilliant. Read his Vision series (or the graphic novel) if you’re watching Wandavision.

Welcome aboard!

I agree with you. Tom King is great. I’ll have to put the Vision series on my list; this isn’t the first time it has been recommended.

Just to be clear, though, I believe this is a 12-issue series–only the first three have been released so far. So I’ll be getting the issues every month and looking for people to talk with!

Okay, so I haven’t been updating every month. To be fair, neither has the series. I’ve compiled now through issue 8. I might have made some mistakes:

Not sure where this fits. It might be in the Andrea timeline with the Covington family, but it’s not clear to me. It could be in the past timeline:
