Font name for Houston Rockets (NBA)

No, not the logo, though that’s a cool piece of art.

What is the name of the font?

Here is an example. See the top of the page.

Since elements of the logo are incorporated in the type, I would guess that it’s a custom font done for the team.

I second that opinion. It’s not at all uncommon for designers to create whole fonts for clients. (Which, amazing as it may seem, were rendered by hand until relatively recently.)

Yeah, that’s what I afraid of. I tried saving it and importing it into several different progams to try and isolate the font, but no go. The best I could get was a “no description” java script tag or a GIF.

Cool font design. I’ve modified some other fonts before for my own stuff, converting it to curves and sending stuff to friends in it and making designs for silk screen and stuff.

I wonder if I can buy this font and how I would find the owners? It would be fun to make a custom t-shirt of my own (not for resale) as a rabid Rockets fan. I already have officially liscensed stuff.

The owners of the font are most likely the Rockets or their advertising agency.

If you’ve modified type faces before, I’d suggest you create your own similar knockoff, which is often done to come close to recognized fonts without paying the license fee. Lots of shareware fonts are like that.

If you silk screen the Rockets logo or something really, really close, you could certainly get in trouble for trademark infringement. You might get by if you made a hand painted T-shirt, since it’s easier to see that it’s not being mass produced, whereas screen prints or inkjet iron-ons could be reproduced readily. Still, I’ve heard of day care centers with crudely painted murals of Disney characters that have been asked to remove them by the big mouse’s legal department.
