  • Or so I’ve heard; I’ve never actually had one. But the NYT cooking section had a recipe for one, and I must say it looks like a bit of down-home, cheesy-salty-greasy carb delight. If it’s good enough for the NYT, it’s good enough for me. I’ll try it sometime.

Bless their hearts. You’ll never see that version on a Minnesotan table. Tater tot hotdish is a “feel it out” recipe. Main ingredients are burger, ‘cream of’ soup, veggies, salt/pepper, and tater tots.
You go from there.
My mom makes hers a la 50’s housewife convenience: Campbell cream of mushroom and canned veggies.
I make mine with a good quality cream of celery, very heavy on fresh or frozen veggies, sriracha, and a mix of potato and cauliflower tots.
(Sorry, family wars have broken out over tater tot hotdish. We need better hobbies in Minnesota)
