Food processor: KitchenAid or Cuisinart? [edited title]

We’re thinking of buying a food processor with part of our tax refund money. Which is better? KitchenAid (we have a mixer and love it) or Cuisinart? Please explain why. thanks!

We have a Cuisinart processor, which doesn’t seem to be on your list.

We also have a KitchenAid stand mixer. IIRC, we got the Cuisinart because it was on sale, and we had been pleased with the small prep processor we had by them.

I have a Cuisinart. While it is great at processing solids, liquids leak. This is a problem when making certain soups and purees, but if it isn’t important to you, it’s quite a machine.

I had a Black and Decker that died after 20 years of service. It didn’t have all the bells and whistles of the top brands, but it was more than just a basic model.

Not Oster! Our cheese shredding blade broke (Plastic hub), and their solution was to SHIP US A WHOLE NEW, ADDITIONAL, food processor.

WTF do I need with a second FP that can’t shred cheese?

Let me know what you find. I’d love a food processor of old. Big food mouth, no freekin’ lawyers requiring a fragile, complex, mechanism so I won’t chop off my finners.

Moving from IMHO to Cafe Society.

My parents got me a food processor for Christmas. They got several friends who recommended KitchenAid and no one recommended Cuisinart. I’ve been very happy with the KitchenAid, but I’ve never used a Cuisinart, so I don’t know if it’s better or worse. Liquid does not leak and it seems like a very heavy-duty machine.

Our Cuisinart just died after nearly 30 years. Plastic shaft that the blade fits over split - part no longer available…

:smack: I knew it looked wrong.

so far the Cuisinart is winning but the vote totals are low so I don’t know if it’s meaningful. Those of you with KitchenAid ones–have you had any problems with them?

I have a Cuisinart, as does my gf. Paired with a wand-mixer (immersion blender) you have kitchen heaven.

I voted for KitchenAid, but I do have one problem with mine. It does a great job processing food, but there’s a 1/4" gap between the grater and the chute, so when I grate or slice food I usually end up with food jammed into that gap. It’s wasteful and difficult to clean it out of there. Other than that, I like it.

I really do like the KitchenAid–we use it probably four or five times a week and it’s still running like a charm.

One problem, though–the food feeder chute is TINY. I rarely use it for this purpose, but it makes the slicing attachment damn near useless unless you’re slicing something long and thin, like carrots or a very thin zucchini or cucumber. No way I could use it to make potato chips–I wouldn’t be able to fit the potato in it without cutting it in half.

I had a Cuisinart until I decided to replace and heard really good things about the Kitchen Aid. I like it a lot, but I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

ETA: No probs with my Kitchen Aid at all. I find it generally easier to take the lid on and off and the feeding tube more useful. I like the small prep bowl. Cuisinart is iconic though, and most people gravitate towards it. I still feel guilty I bough a Kitchen Aid!

I believe you’ll find that’s pretty common.

I have a KitchenAid food processor. It’s not very fancy, but it does a great job of making hummus.
