Footie Support Group: 25 days and counting . . .

I don’t really believe it either. Just wondering if it was being reported anywhere else.

Slight nitpick - it’s the League of Ireland he plays in. The “Irish League” is the six-county one.

Speaking as a QPR fan, thanks for Kelly. One of a number of inspired loan signings Holloway made that meant our two-bob team achieved a semblance of respecability last term.

Can we have him back?

We’ve a squad of about 14, the bookies have made us favourites to storm the division (surely a kiss of death), and we’ve not got two shillings to rub together. So we’ll be relying on some more Holloway Loan Rangers to make up the numbers.

Although, Ainsworth looks tasty in pre-season. So expect an injury any day now…

(Actually, is this a bad time to mention the Non-American Dopers Society NADS ?)

Where footy talk is positively welcomed.

ruadh - I haven’t heard it but it sounds like he has an agent who can plant a good story.

Fwiw, if Zamora – an England under 21 international – goes from Div2 to the Premiership for £1.5 million and there’s no rush to sign him at that price . . . .ah, I’ve been beaten to the scoop by the nimble Owl . . .

pierre72 – On your bike! Kelly is the new Stevie Carr, you heard it here first . . . .
Owl - I was reading that Ziege might not be out for as long as I imagined, 2-3 weeks maybe ? I know he plays for the master race but I’m not convinced Spurs under Herr Glenda got the best out of him . . .

Not heard of the Irish lad strolling down to the bridge. I’d be surprised – unless he’s really good then he’s not going to get a game and if he’s that good then why is noone else interested? But who knows; maybe John Inman (good call LC) has a thing for Irishmen. Today Duff, tomorrow the world!

I find this very difficult to believe. I’m admittedly biased against him, but even recognizing his talent as a footballer, I wouldn’t put him the same class as Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore, or even (cough) Gazza. And that’s just talking about England players.

Now you’re talking sense.

I’d just like to register my support for one of the Nationwide teams. I’m a Swansea City fan, and I’m anticipating an incredible season, culminating in becoming the Third division champions. (Sorry but Lincoln City will have to make do with the runner’s up spot)
Of course I anticipated the same thing last season too… but I won’t go into that. :o

Hoddle was a player who comfortably played at no 4 or no 10.

His goals to games ratio, in his pomp, was 1 in 2, ie world class for a striker, never mind a midfielder. That beats charlton, as an out and out striker.

He is the greatest passer of a ball that I have ever seen, note the is as he is still in a class of his own. I have seen spurs in training and he does things with a football that no one else can do.

He is unfotrunately Dagenham (two stops beyond Barking). And there is the mullet and “diamond lights” to take into account too.

It’s a tragedy he is English as if he’d been from anywhere else he would have 100+ caps but we don’t trust players who can’t tackle (apart from that show-pony Beckham)

Bobby Moore was a great player, but not in the same league as Hoddle for natural talent, his talents lay more at an organisational level (although he could play a bit - his passing wasn’t that great).

Gascoigne is the greatest waste of a natural talent since Rodney Marsh or Stan Bowles.

At Spurs we were lucky to have the very best of him, and that was very good indeed, unfortunately it seems he was bound to self destruct. However for the goal against the filth in the ‘91 FA semi, he is an immortal. This is celebrated every year by spurs fans as St Hotspurs’ day (sad but true, someone even printed up cards and they sold like hot cakes)

Five things this morning:

Came across this site which is surely the saddest use of spare time in the history of civilisation. Except, it’s great . . in a desperately saddo way . . .

Two: Greetings Vetch – you reminded me of an old friend from college who used to refer to her nether regions as ‘Vag’. No reason why you should so remind me, but there you go . . . perhaps you can help with the toon that accompanies this poetic masterpiece?

*We are Swansea, we are supreme,
We’ll never be mastered, by no English *******,
We keep the welsh flag flying high!

We come from the valleys where the grass is green,
The hardest fans you’ve ever seen,
We don’t tell stories and we don’t tell tales,
We are the boys from South Wales!
Swansea O’ Swansea O’ City said I,
I’ll stand along the North Bank,
Until the day I die,
Take me to the Vetch Field,
Way down by the sea,
Where I will follow Swansea, Swansea City.

Jump around if you hate Cardiff.
Cheer up Alan Cork…
Who are we? Jack Army!*

  • Reminds me of Homer, which Homer I’m not yet sure.

Third, looks, this morning, as if Chelski are about to get Sir Mad Jock off the hook apropos Juan Sebastian Vermin

Fourth, thanks pierre72 for the link to NADS. I have registered, just not had the time to introduce myself over there.

Last but most certainly not last, it’s only ** 17 DAYS TO GO** (until the premiership kicks off.

Hurrah ! Jolly good ! Bottoms up ! Lets all go to bingo !

From the spurs entry; “away fans should drink in the antwerp arms” only if they want to be organ donors, or perhaps be part of the meat raffle.

And from Milwall where to drink: Nowhere. That’s about right.

re our ground:

This from Lahndahn’s e’nin stannah:

so that looks like that for staying at WHL. Cue groundsharing rumours…

Early doors, Guvnor. Negotiating tactic, innit.

mebbee, just mebbee. I have a sneaking suspicion that this isn’t the most unwelcome of news to ENIC/Levy.

Although I have always quite enjoyed the walk from seven sisters as there are so many pubs en route.

. . .and it provides endless opportunities to meet and greet opposing fans for a cultural exchange . . . Given my concerns over the Tottenham defence, this is quite possibly excellent news:

Mbulelo Mabizela - I look forward to the terraces chanting his name after a few light ales.

he sounds great. Postigia got himself sent off for fighting when he was playing Nazio, and this bloke has a reputation for head-butting opponents.

Brilliant.

In CL qualifying news, Celtic won 4-0 away to Kaunas and Bohemians lost 1-0 at home to Rosenborg, so I’m in a mixed humour today. 1-0 isn’t a bad result for Bohs but I had hoped we could at least manage a draw.

Based on last night’s performance we won’t have to worry about Chelsea or anyone else coming in for Glen Crowe.

Owl - You always have a refreshing perspective on these matters . . .

I look forward to joining you in such next season ruadh, next season . . . .

That was an important one for the Jolly Green Jocks because there was no EUFA Cup parachute, I believe . . . quite a relief, I’m sure.

The above comment to *ruadh in reference to her “In CL qualifying news”

Postiga got sent off for fighting against Nazio?

I like him even more now

L_C , I think those are 3 separate chants. (four if you count the one about Cardiff at the end-obviously there’s lots of Cardiff ones. ) Unfortunately when I get to see Swansea these days it’s an away game nearer to where I live now, so I don’t hear the best of the chanting.
On a related subject I wonder if there is anyone like myself who find it impossible to tranfer their loyalty. On another forum I visit there are people there who move to another part of the country and can transfer their support.
I do have a built in set of television preferences though, if I’m watching European football I’ll always support the British team. In fact to fully enjoy any game if there’s no obvious favourite I have to pick one side to support.
Anyway Scottish football starts tomorrow and only 8 days before the Nationwide kicks off. I’m hoping for a less traumatic season!
