For Dopers who were kids in the 70s/early 80s: your Saturday morning dreamteam?

I think that was Margaret Cho. “You knew it was all over when ‘Soul Train’ came on.”

I think jayjay and I were watching all the same Saturday morning shows… :stuck_out_tongue: I loved “Land of the Lost.”
What about Lidsville? It had WitchiePoo!

Lidsville had Weenie the Genie (who was, admittedly, played by Billie Hayes, the same person who played WitchiePoo). H.R. Pufnstuf had Witchie Poo.

I would’ve written this word-for-word, and I’ll add Yogi’s Gang, where they flew around in an “ark” looking for a perfect place, Schoolhouse Rock, Bugs Bunny and Friends.

One of the “Kongs” was the drummer for Three Dog Night!

I lived for Saturday mornings.

:smack: Damn, you’re right. I bow down before your Sid & Marty Kroft knowledge greatness.

This is so true it hurts. It cracked my wife up too. I went to Youtube to check out some Soul Train clips to see if it was as bad as I remember. You know what? I really like it! When did that happen?

Superfriends, Shazam! and Oh Mighty Isis!

As it turns out, I don’t really care for comics now, but I loved them when I was a kid.
(Though I do have a Captain Marvel lightning bolt T-shirt that I like a lot…)

Go, Mighty Orbots!
And for my fellow Canadians:

Band of Brothers, marching together
Heads held high in all kinds of weather…

Plus Max, the 2,000 year-old mouse. He was there!

Something that you rarely hear any nostalgia for is Kukla, Fran & Ollie. Mainly I remember a lot of movies that just didn’t make a lot of sense (of course I was really little at the time and a lot of them were dubbed).

Unsurprisingly, I was a big fan of Hong Kong Phooey yeah, I spelled it wrong in my username.

All the Hanna-Barbera cartoons, Looney Tunes, even Smurfs would make my dream line-up. I watch all these on Teletoon Retro with my kids now and they love it; I get the biggest kick watching them laughing out loud at Tom and Jerry. It’s too bad they don’t get the same thrill of watching Saturday morning cartoons now, it’s just not the same watching them throughout the week or on DVD.

Oh yeah, Soul Train…

Loved Land of the Lost, G-Force, Smurfs, Gummi Bears, and Muppet Babies. And of course Looney Tunes.

My brother and I used to fight over whether we would watch Kids Incorporated or Superfriends. He claimed that he only watched Superfriends in order to make fun of it. Yeah, right, he was so transparent.

Sublight, your parents were letting you watch cartoons so they could have Saturday-morning sex.

My youngest brother had a best friend who would spend the night and watch cartoons on Saturday morning. He really got into those cartoons. By this time most of us were sleeping in on Saturdays, but everyone would be woken up by the sound of him yelling “No Gonzo, don’t go in the closet!!”

A few more I watched:

Plastic-Man - the whole “stretchy body” thing always kinda creeped me out, but I watched it anyway

Captain Caveman and The Shmoo (I remember both of these having some relationship to The Flintstones)

Spider-man And His Amazing Friends - including Iceman and Firestar

Godzilla (theme song: Godzilla! Godzilla! Godzilla!.. and Godzuuuuukiiiiii)

Man, Godzuki was lame.

With fiery blasts, our roaring rockets rise
Beyond the Earth, beyond the skies!

And, ditto on the Orbots…I loved the Orbots as a sprog.

The Littles and Gummi Bears are the only other Saturday Morning cartoons from my childhood that I haven’t ruined my memories of, or am afraid to…both of those held up wonderfully.

That is what I came to post. God, I loved that show.

And Aquaman and The Wonder Twins.

I can’t believe I forgot about Mighty Mouse, I don’t think it was on for a real long time but it had my favourite theme song.

Did you know that Captain Kool was played by TV director Michael Lembeck?

Lets see.

I remember mostly the live action shows.

ArkII

Land of the Lost, I had a huge crush on Holly, remember the swimming hole episode?

Westwind
ISIS

I just purchased The Pebbles and Bamm Bamm show on DVD.

Agreed about Soul Train, cool animated train then Don Cornelius and Afrosheen.

I am so nostalgic reading this thread.

I still wake Saturday mornings and play my DVD’s of Warner Brothers cartoons and Jonny Quest.

and not to be forgotten:

**Spaaaaaace Ghost!

Herculoids**

I also wanted to be Aquaman.

Yeah, Johnny Quest rocked. Clutch Cargo, Mighty Mouse and, for you DFW dopers… Mr. Peppermint!

Bugs Bunny and Friends
Land of the Lost
Scooby Doo
(until they got Scrappy, at which point it jumped the shark)

Does anybody else on the planet remember this one? It was called The Kids from CAPER and it only lasted one season, but I really loved it. The writing was surprisingly clever and full of bad puns, IIRC. Just wondering if anyone else even watched it, much less remembers/liked it.

I liked:[ul]
[li]Schoolhouse Rock[/li][li]Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner Show[/li][li]Pink Panther Show (including the “The Ant and the Aardvark” and “The Texas Toads”)[/li][li]Shazam/Isis[/li][li]Land of the Lost[/li][li]Hong Kong Phooey[/li][li]Plastic-Man[/li][li]Wonder Twins[/li][/ul]

A few years later, I watched (with my younger sisters):[ul]
[li]The Smurfs[/li][/ul]

I also used to watch Ultraman, but that might have been on weekdays.
