I came upon this site while searching for submarine info and found it very interesting for Verne fans.

Very Neat! 'll have to explore it all.
May I also recommend The Annotated 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with annotations by Walter James Miller (if you can find it, used. It’s out of print) or his more recent Translation of 20K LUTS.

So if, like, a league is 3 miles, they were 60,000 miles deep?

Hey, this confused the heck out of me as a kid. I thought 20,000 leagues meant 20,000 straight down. As an adult, just didn’t think about it, until I read the novel again.
It’s 20,000 leauges going around underwater, of course. I wonder how many people still think it’s 20K leages down?

It confused me, too.

Actually, I thought a league was roughly six feet.
