For Friggs sake!

Its very common in my paternal family to say “For Friggs sake”, despite hundreds of years of Christian faith.

We even fled Europe in the late 1700s due to religious and ethnic beliefs. Then we fled south Russia for the same reason around 1905. (We are of Volga German stock.)

Despite this, we seem to have retained some vestige of this Germanic/Viking oath.

Sometimes we say Frick as well. Both are euphemisms for carnal activities of course.

Is this shibboleth actually related to the Norse goddess Frigg, or just a big fat coincidence?

I’m an Atheist, but I am sure some of my relatives would be horrified to know they were invoking some Pagan Goddess. I’d find it amusing.

I’d say coincidental: Online 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica

I could do without the Volgarity.
