For good health: red wine - check, dark chocolate -check, Vegemite?!? (FDA Q. too)

Recent medical news reported that red wine and dark chocolate are good for your heart, sweet, I like them and many others do. Now Folic Acid seems that needs to be added with the stuff that is good for you:

Vegemite is also a source of it! Mmm… I guess I have to check the stuff, but then a curious thing is going on with Vegemite in the USA:

Vegemite is not banned in personal imports to the US, but the confusion of the FDA rules made Kraft Foods to temporarily stop importing Vegemite to be sold in stores in the USA while it resolves the issue of folate with the FDA. The FDA has said they did not told Kraft to stop importing, yet many are reporting Kraft is not sending more to stores . So what is going on here?

In the meantime I will stick to dark chocolate and red wine.

This was covered fairly recently. The confusion boiled down to FDA rule about folate dictating that only certain foods can have folate added, and Vegemite isn’t one of them, but then they realised that Vegemite doesn’t contain any added folate - it’s already in the stuff, so it’s legit.

Yes, the thing is that Kraft is being silly, all the latest news bits mention that action by Kraft and so far there is no report that Kraft accepted that it was a misunderstanding and restored their shipments.

I’m very relieved to hear it’ll be back on the shelves when hubby and I hit the US next year.

You know you’re an Aussie if…you fly into a panic at having to go Vegemite-free for a month.
