I spent WAY too much time on this game many 20 or so years ago. It was the reason I got into computers in the first place. I’ve got a copy on my HD, but every time I think about it I feel exhausted. Few games I’ve ever spent as much time on.
Zangband, unfortunately, is no longer actively developed - but there is ToME - Troubles of Middle-Earth - in a similar vein.
I loved these types of games. I never had the stamina to win without cheating. Of course, is it really cheating to modify the source code of a game called “NetHack”?
