The President has designated several Pacific areas permanent national monuments/marine sanctuaries. One of the monuments includes the Maraianas Trench.
Maybe this is a huge whoosh, but I am very confused as to what the OP’s title has to do with anything.
What?
Ohhhhhhhhh. Gotcha.
I had no idea the Marianas Trench was ours to designate as anything. Now that it’s a monument, can I go visit it?
That depends, how long would you like to make your visit?
I think I’d need at least 21 or 22 minutes–maybe more if it had a good Visitor Center.
But really, I’d be satisfied to do it just once.
If someone in their late Fifties can’t go now, could they go in a few years?
I’m actually considering a trip to Guam next year. Anybody know if the Visitor’s Center and Trench Lift will be ready by then?
I listened very closely to the report about this on Morning Edition and was disappointed that “once,” “1960,” and “20 minutes” didn’t come up.
