Okay, I did it! It was a learning experience…it never occurred to me, for instance, that I would need to have a border to compensate for the binding, so the edges are a little weird. I also have learned that I never, ever want to put on another binding in my life, so I think I’ll ask my mom to do the next one.
And I may as well take this opportunity to show off my littlepoets…Tbone and the Weeping Princess: http://www.ofoto.com/PhotoView.jsp?&collid=21978947406&photoid=53590216706
There we are! I am starting on Tbone’s quilt soon. Decided to go with larger squares, mostly in greens. Meanwhile, I’ve made several smaller projects–hats, purses, that sort of thing. Oh, the fun! It’s so nice to have my sewing machine back…although I seem to be accumulating fabric at an alarming rate.
Thanks for all of your help! I’m happy with my first quilt, and the Weeping Princess is very satisfied.
I forgot to note that it’s not technically quilted. It’s knotted or tied or whatever it’s called when you are too lazy and/or handsewing challenged to quilt. My mom insists that it isn’t actually a quilt, it’s a “comfort.” Good enough for me, I suppose.
As to displaying it…mostly I’ll display it draped across the Weeping Princess when she sleeps, except for when she is dragging it all over hellandback. She likes it very much, although she seems to be equally enthralled with the buy-a-prequilted-panel-and-add-a-border Snoopy quilt I made as well. Figures.
Very nice. I made one quilt and I also tied it as hand quilting after all the piece work seems very daunting to me. If I ever find a place to put my sewing machine I will have to try again.
Heh. Sage (the Weeping Princess) really does have eyes. They just don’t show up much when she smiles like that. She looks, at times, very much like her daddy and his Korean ancestors.
That’s lovely, Karol. I agree, though; bindings are the only part of quilting I don’t like. They’re just so tedious. Of course, they wouldn’t be as tedious if I didn’t insist on doing the mitered corners and handstitched backside and did some of the faster, easier methods instead. But I’d rather have the nicer-looking binding and something to gripe about, so I stick with the tedious crap. Which method did you wind up using?
Oh, and I’ll mail you about the soap stuff eventually, really. I just got out of the soapmaking mood and haven’t gotten around to it. It’s all Dr.J’s fault for getting me Zoo Tycoon 2. I haven’t gotten anything done, cleaned, or made since then.
