I work in the bankruptcy industry. Same-sex couple cannot file jointly (because bankruptcy is federal) and it’s just stupid to have to file twice to do what a married couple can do in one shot.
Well what on earth happened to all of the pushes for civil union type rights that was taking place over the last several years? I know (based on public service announcements by said companies) that two of the largest employers in my former home state, had health insurance and other couples benefits for life partners regardless of sexual orientation or legal marriage status.
But you’re right, I’ve only seen or heard news reports or PSAs on these items, not seen actual legal documentation.
Anyway, my basic point was, it doesn’t matter what they (those who make the laws) ultimately decide to call it, “marriage” as a word and definition still can’t be "owned’ by either side regardless of what the legal definition eventually becomes. So make SOMETHING to allow legal rights already and worry about what to call it later…Sheesh.
Seeing two “guys” smooch totally disgusts me and you can usually tell which one is the “wife”, gross.
Have your ‘union’ and the same benefits as hetero married couples but don’t insist that it’s marriage and expect that all and sundry to “celebrate the differences”.
Oddly enough two chicks smooching seems perfectly natural
What a load of garbage! If someone doesn’t support gays and/or gay marriage they’re labelled homophobic or they “protest too much” it’s ALWAYS the same,
I don’t fear gays I just wish they’d clam up, keep it to themselves and stop expecting everyone condone it.
They tried that for a few millenia; didn’t turn out too well. So, things are changing.

So, the problem’s with the gay guys, not you. Good to know. :dubious:

Yep. Surprisingly enough, when one spouts bigotry, one gets called a bigot. There’s a cure for that but no one ever seems to want it.
Sucks to be you.
Only, most people who spend their/our lives suffering systematic discrimination do not feel that urge. The occasional bout of irritation or anger at a particularly large dumbfuck, yes; an urge for general violence against “the oppresor”, no.
it would suck worse to be YOU

Pardon me all to hell for at least being honest, obviously if someone posts something you don’t agree with you jump to the conclusion that YOU are right,
let me know next time what you want me to think/say.
Ooh, snap! You showed him!
You are very much entitled to your opinion. Please allow others the same courtesy of expressing their opinion about your opinion.

Ow! Stoppit that hurts! You really showed ME didn’t you?!
“Others” expressed an opinion and so did I, how does this concern you?
This concerns me because I also participated heavily in this thread. (I am one of the “others”, so to speak.)
I am just saying that while you are more than free to post your thoughts on the ickiness of two dudes kissing and how they shouldn’t be able to get married, you need to be prepared to have others voice their thoughts about you. (Although IMHO is not the right place to properly express those feelings.)
Also, no one said that everybody who is against SSM “protests too much”, that goes more in the direction of people who seem very preoccupied what people do in their bedrooms and talk about “temptation”. That’s not what this thread is about, anyway.
Do you have anything to say other than “I know you are, but what am I?”
Help, help. I’m being repressed!!!
Doesn’t even asking the question presume that opposition to gay marriage is rooted in something other than a visceral reaction about gays? Cause I don’t think that there is any other reason–people have their dumb emotions and they construct these fortresses of nonsense to try to justify them.
Seeing a black & white couple smooch totally disgusts me.
If someone doesn’t support black and/or black & white marriage they’re labelled racist or they “protest too much” it’s ALWAYS the same,
I don’t fear blacks, I just wish they’d clam up, keep it to themselves and only marry their own and stop expecting everyone to condone black & white marriage.
See how stupid it sounds?
And you can TOTALLY tell which one’s black, Sick.
Being me’s actually pretty fantastic.
