What did you think of it? In particular, what did you think of the 3rd book? Something I found strange was how thrown away Teresa’s character was. It didn’t much seem like Thomas was grieving for her at the end–her character just dies and it’s over and he’s moved on. I know she did messed up stuff in the 2nd book, but since she continually apologized for it and sacrificed her life for Thomas, you think she’d get more of a memorial in the book.
I think this thread is better served in Cafe Society. I’ve moved it for you. I’ve also made the spoiler tag a little more prominent.
Oh okay, thanks
I didn’t read the book I just saw the movie and it was terrible.
Oh, why did you think it was terrible?
I didn’t like how throw away most of the characters were. There were three characters in the whole series that got some attention and development. Everyone else, including Theresa, was completely interchangeable, to the point that I lost track of who was who often.
The idea of the girls maze was interesting and spending a bit of time on them in the third book, might have helped, but as soon as Thomas got near them, the author found away to separate him again. Theresa was slightly developed in the first book, completely ignored in the second, and became a cardboard cut out in the last one (WICKED is good! No matter what crazy, messed up, awful thing they ask me to do!)
My kids liked the series, but I don’t think it’s one of those that transcends it’s Young Adult genre like Harry Potter did.
I read them a few years ago, and they didn’t leave much of an impression on me, other than one of overall disappointment. Much like the TV show Lost, it struck me as a situation where the author came up with a reasonably interesting setup with which to start his story, but was completely unable to come up with an equally interesting, or even plausible, explanation behind the setup, and so he just sort of wrote until it ended.
