Airbus.
In a supreme bit of… well, not irony, I guess, but “it figures,” David Johnston was the man who did everything he could to get Brian Mulroney off the hook for the Airbus thing. Mulroney is a liar and a criminal, but the bigwigs all stick together.
It took me awhile to get past the fact that looks more like Jay Leno than Brian Mulroney.
You think so? Gable must have had a lot of practice.
Or Bill Clinton.
Maybe you need a certain look to get ahead in politics. There was a time when that was a different thing from show business.
Brian Mulroney, the man who did more for the Liberal cause then 99% of Grit PMs.
Free Trade was the right call. Praising Trudeau was probably about fishing for a Senate seat or other quango, unless he greatly disagrees with Harper/PP.
I may be misunderstanding your comment, but are you suggesting that Mulroney is trying to get a Senate seat by buttering up Justin? The man is 84 years old.
I don’t know why Mulroney was so effusive.
I think the PC Party of Mulroney’s era is much closer to the policies of Trudeau the Younger than any of the other federal parties. I see nothing surprising in his endorsement.
Perhaps Mulroney sees Free Trade has his legacy. Protecting that was the best thing Trudeau has done. He did okay with Covid. He has underperformed in some areas.
Mulroney was always a moderate, establishment PC. The establishment has coalesced around Trudeau. Bay Street financiers and their ilk love the new industrial policies, stimulus, etc. It’s money in their pockets. Mulroney is simply representing the Zeitgeist among the Canadian ‘elite’.
And the mandatory retirement age for senators is 75.
I’m not sure I knew that. I think I did but forgot it.
So he can still serve for -9 years!
Sorry, was reply to an old post without realizing it.
If he did become a Senator, it might take the Senate three years to get around to setting up an exploratory committee to travel across the country and discuss these issues with ordinary Canadians in every province seeking a wide variety of views…
Too long at that, imho!
