I really liked this version of the movie. It’s better for viewers that aren’t familar with the history of WWII. It spends almost the first hour covering Pearl Harbor and other events leading up to Midway.
They based several of the pilots and other characters on actual airmen. The Wikipedia movie page has links to their bios in the Cast section.
There were several details that I had read about in other sources. For example, Admiral Halsey was commanding the USS Enterprise and was returning to Pearl Harbor on Dec 7. They barely avoided being in port during the attack.
Anyone else find it odd not to recognize actors? There were so many unfamiliar faces (to me) in this movie from 2019. Makes it diffcult to keep up with the character names. I don’t have that reference point of knowing the actor and making a character connection. It’s not a problem in movies with a small cast.
I opened the wrong Tab and replied. Thought I had the movie thread. Different Tab.
Sorry for the brain block.
Back to Rats.
Why do they send a shiver down our spine? I’ve been on my sofa and seen a mouse crossing the hall. The sight and sound of their paws on hardwood is unsettling. I don’t scream or anything. But there’s just something about mice or that humans dislike.
I take a few deep breathes to settle myself. Then glare at my useless dog that never barks or chases rats.
I always put on gloves before picking up a trap with a mouse. Don’t want any contact with that dude.
But I think that finding any unexpected animal in your house would cause alarm. If I saw an unknown dog or cat wandering my hall I’d freak out. I’d assume most people would be much more alarmed by seeing a mouse in their house than by seeing one out in a forest. But I’m not sure; I don’t really understand the negativity many people seem to feel about rodents.
Do they still make humane mouse and rat traps? Years ago, when our cat proved not fast enough to dispose of some mice to our satisfaction, we resorted to buying a human kill-free mousetrap in which we loaded peanut butter on a cracker to lure the mouse in and a little door would snap behind him. I caught one mouse and set him free in a field a mile from my house.
As for seeing one out in a forest I can’t say I have. But I have seen some kinda rat on the dock to the pond. I’m not afraid of them. I’m afraid of the snakes under that thing that feeds on them.
The thing about those adorable creatures is they invite less than adorable creatures to dinner. If you like pet snakes, I’m sorry. But I don’t like wild snakes that may or may not have venom in their fangs that may bite me. Those attract feral hogs to the pond, who don’t care if they’re poisonous. Those feral hogs can ruin a pond and the surrounding area. Also causing pestilence I don’t wanna think about late at night.
I’m just a human. I wanna stay away from all of that.
Please.
Since this thread first ran, Gene Hackman’s wife apparently died from Hanta virus, leaving him to wander their home in an Altzheimer state until he died several days later from supposedly dehydration/malnutrition. Best to avoid the alien mice (easier said than done?).
