For the "Me Neithers": Can't Hardly

Do those who prefer ‘me neither’ also prefer ‘can’t hardly’?

‘Hardly’ isn’t a full negative. Is it half empty or half full? Like most, I think, I restrict its use to verbs used in a positive sense, and its use with those used in a negative sense seems very unkempt. However, I guess there’s no real logical reason behind this.

Ray (well, not quite always kempt)

Are you looking for the results of a survey, or is this just a rant?

Remember when your dog ate my goldfish, and you lied and said I never had a goldfish? Then why did I have the bowl, Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

‘can’t hardly’ is a whole nother issue.

It is too clear, and so it is hard to see.

Nano, a couple other favorites…

“I could care less.” (Logical in its own way, but NEVER used to express its literal meaning, “I do care.”)

“Irregardless…” (This one ain’t even a word! What’s wrong with “regardless?” Why the doubling of the negative? Why not impress the listener with “irrespective?”)

I don’t know why fortune smiles on some and lets the rest go free…

The results of the last survey around here proclaimed that 98% of us don’t believe in surveys.

LIFE: Those sparse nanoseconds between downloads of software upgrades.

Uh huh. That’s what I thought.

If only there was a forum for threads like this. You know, mundane pointless stuff.

Oh wait! There is!

In fact, there’s a thread over there where people are bitching about phrases they hate! Just like this thread here! Why dontcha go over there and share your disdain?

It’s too bad, though. I’m really going to miss this thread.
