Vista doesn’t hide exe files, it hides known file type extensions by default. Exactly the same way XP does. This behavior can be changed in about 10 seconds if desired.
When time came for me to update my computer, Vista was just being released. I bought a Mac. Later, I found myself needing to use Windows. I bought a copy of XP and loaded it on. The company I worked for was still using XP, and as of two months ago showed no inclinations of using Vista.
You shouldn’t have to worry about it as someone who buys a router at Best Buy or something, it’s more of a pain in the ass for people on large scale networks with dedicated computers (or two dedicated computers, in our case) acting as DHCP servers.
