For those who subscribe to there being no afterlife, does it trouble you? Are you content with it?

The only life I care about is the here and now. I don’t know what happens when you die, but nobody else does either. They have certain beliefs on the subject, and they are entitled to them. But telling me you “know” what happens when we die is stupidity.

I believe it prevents me from attempting suicide. I also think I have a greater appreciation for human life.

I find it comforting. I love being alive, but I like the idea that there is a hard stop.

I picture it like throwing out your old notebooks on the last day of high school. The missed assignments, the bad test scores, the loose ends, the permanent record-- none of that stuff is relevant anymore. You are finally done, and can let it all go.

I’m not scared of dying,
And I don’t really care.
If it’s peace you find in dying,
Well then let the time be near.
If it’s peace you find in dying,
And if dying time is here,
Just bundle up my coffin
'Cause it’s cold way down there.
I hear that its cold way down there.
Yeah, crazy cold way down there.

I get that, too. I don’t want to be held to what I did in this life forever. I’ve done some good stuff and some asinine stuff and it’s all finite.
