I’m looking at buying my first home, and am looking to save some cash. Are there any websites that display free listings of forclosed properties. If not, how can i go about seeing them?
The MLS includes foreclosed properties, though they’re not usually given a special tag. It’s not hard to pick them out though – the seller is a bank, and they usually are sold “as-is”.
Have you tried searching on a local major realty company’s site?
Also, I just bought a house last year, and the way to save money often isn’t foreclosures – unless you are really good at fixing things. I saved a lot more going with a nice, well-maintained but dated-looking estate that I can fix up at my leisure, rather than needing to do so immediately for livability. (Expect destruction - ripped up and horribly stained carpets, marked up walls with holes, things like cabinets and bathtubs may be ripped out or entirely missing.)
Google Maps -> Click More… -> Click the Real Estate box -> Click the Foreclosures box, then the Go Button.
If you are hoping to qualify for the 1st time homebuyer’s credit thing, I wouldn’t count on being able to have a signed offer by April 30 with a foreclosure or short sale. Maybe they’ll extend the credit, though.
Your instructions don’t work as stated.
Get a realter. Discuss with them what you want in a new home, cost and how much work before moving in and how much work after moving in you are willing to accept. With out an agent a forclosed home is not going to be cheaper. But the agent will help you with the bank.
I would shying away from short sales. They can take months to close and maybe not even close.
I was able to figure it out from what fiddlesticks posted.
Go to google.
Click on maps.
Type in the name of the city where you wan to search.
Click on "more " on the upper right side of the map and check the “real estate” button.
Go to the panel to the left of the map. Click on “foreclosures” and uncheck “for sale” at the top of the panel.
You now have a listing of foreclosures in that area.
